Interview with Brooke Chatham

Brooke, welcome to Homeschool Authors. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Thank you! I live in Oklahoma, and I'm the second-born in a family of seven kids. The ages range from 20 to 2, so yes, we're one of those families who are one tent away from a full-blown circus! :) Other than writing, I love to compose and record music, as well as teach school and violin lessons.

If you could meet anyone in the world, who would you choose and why?
I could name so many people, but Jesus is at the top of my list. I want to thank Him in person for all He's done for me, and I know I'll someday be able to do that!

What was your favorite part of being homeschooled?
Being homeschooled has given me invaluable time to spend with my family and do the things I love––like writing. Time spent is precious, and I can't think of a better way to have spent my homeschool years than being at home and learning alongside my family.

What caused you to start writing?
I was 10 or 11 when I began writing, and that was about 9 years ago. I'd see my older sister sit for hours on our old desktop computer, typing up stories on the Word program. Naturally, I wanted to do what she was doing. :) So I began my writing journey.

What inspired Nicole Benson?
Around our house, it's no secret that I love action films. Most stories I'd written previous to Nicole Benson were slower-paced, but I'd always wanted to write something with lots of action and mystery. One afternoon, I started to form a story in my mind of a woman on the run. I quickly typed up a few paragraphs on my iPhone before heading to my laptop, and Nicole Benson grew from there.

What is it about?
Nicole Benson is on the run from the FBI for crimes she claims she didn’t commit. With a regretful and traumatized past, she struggles with her own identity while constantly running from the Russian terrorists whom she believes have set her up in a massive terrorism plan.

When Nicole meets Micah Kelly, the man who seems to have everything together in his life, she starts to wonder if there really is a God. Micah’s kindness to Nicole makes her realize there is more to life than chance, but she’s running out of time.

Along with Micah, Nicole must prove her innocence to the authorities before the Russian terrorists finalize their plans to ruin her life . . . once and for all.

Who will enjoy Nicole Benson?
Anyone looking for a clean, fast-paced action novel. I think teenagers and adults alike will enjoy Nicole Benson. Friends and family of mine have told me how much they loved my book, ranging from age 12 to age 60!

Where can people get it?
I published the book on Createspace, an Amazon website. You can either get it on Createspace.com or Amazon.com.

What are some of your favorite authors?
Honestly, I don't read a lot of fiction. As for Christian life authors, I love just about anything by Tom Harmon, Joshua Harris, or Eric and Leslie Ludy.

Where can people connect with you?
I recently began a blog over at brookekchatham.wordpress.com. I'd love to hear any thoughts or suggestions you may have on Nicole Benson!

Do you have any final thoughts?
A book is nothing without its readers, so thank you to all you readers! Also, a huge thank-you to Homeschool Authors for having me! :)

  2. This book sounds really, really good! A question about the book: Is it set "anytime," or specifically in the present, past, or future?
