I really didn’t know what I was getting
into when I agreed to review this book. I knew the basic premise and that was
about it. I was quickly plunged into a light fantasy with a unique feel.
Kingsely is a strong writer with a
voice that is unique and doesn’t sound like she is trying to copy anyone else.
Her writing was fantastic and strong, making this short little book a joy to
read.
The story was told from the perspective
of a narrator, which is a perspective that isn’t used very often any more, but
made this story entertaining and unique. The narrator interrupted the tale a
few times to give humorous tips and opinions. The narrator, though not the main
character, steals the show.
The story itself, a dragon slaying
story of sorts, had many twists and turns. A girl, not a knight, is after the
dragon. She meets a spoiled princess, two knights, and a wise man that is not
so wise. Each character adds a great dimension and more humor to the story.
If you haven’t already guessed, this is
a story that is meant to be humorous, not serious. It is light and
entertaining, with no great point. However, I enjoyed every minute of it just
as a nice, clean, relaxing read.
I highly recommend this book for those
who like unique stories of adventure, dragons, and knights.
